In a bid to unearth and nurture budding football talents across the state, the Rivers State Football Association, in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Sports, is proud to announce the introduction of the "Simplified Football Cup 2024". This groundbreaking tournament, also known as the Governor's Cup, will feature the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State, providing a platform for hidden gems to shine.
The primary objective of this competition is to identify and develop young players who have yet to be discovered, residing in various communities throughout the state. By doing so, the Association aims to foster a new generation of football stars, equipping them with the necessary skills and exposure to excel in the sport.
Scheduled to take place from August 12th to September 13th, 2024, at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Simplified Football Cup 2024 promises to be an exciting and highly competitive event. Registration for the tournament is currently open to all 23 Local Government Areas, with a deadline set for August 9th, 2024.
Notably, only players who have not participated in any competition organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the past two years, including the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigerian National League (NNL), and Nationwide League One and Two (NLO 1 & 2), are eligible to participate in this tournament.
This initiative is a testament to the Association's commitment to grassroots football development and its dedication to providing opportunities for young players to showcase their talents. As the football community eagerly anticipates the maiden edition of the Simplified Football Cup, one thing is certain - the future of Rivers State football has never looked brighter.
