Ughelli, a city in Delta State, is set to host the Ifeanyi Ekwueme National U-17 Scouting Tournament from August 18th to 23rd, 2024. This prestigious event will bring together 16 top football clubs and academies from various states in Nigeria, converging on the Ughelli Township Stadium and the Ogor Technical College Mini Stadium, Ogor.
The tournament, facilitated by the Ughelli North Football Council led by Mr. Onome Ikrechero Johnbull, aims to provide a platform for talented young players to showcase their skills and potentially secure offers from top clubs within and outside Nigeria. Top scouts will be in attendance, seeking to discover the next generation of football stars.
Mr. Onome Ikrechero Johnbull expressed his excitement about hosting the tournament, stating, "We are thrilled to host this scouting tournament, which is another feather in our cap. Our objective is to make Ughelli the hub of football in Nigeria, and we believe this event will bring us closer to achieving that goal. The tournament is named after Ifeanyi Ekwueme, a former Super Eagles midfielder and current Sporting Director of Enyimba FC of Aba. Ekwueme had a illustrious career, featuring for top European clubs and representing Nigeria in various international competitions.
