COVID 19: FG, WAEC agree on shift in WASSCE date
THE Federal Government and West African Examination Council have agreed to shift the date of West African Senior School Certificate Examination from the August 4 to September 5, 2020, earlier announced by the Council.
Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who made this known on Friday in Abuja, said this was the outcome of a meeting between the Federal Government and officials of WAEC in Nigeria on Monday and that both parties have agreed to further consult with four other countries on new examination date.
The Minister also the government has given school owners in the country up to 29th July 2020 to meet specific guidelines towards the reopening of schools at a date to be announced in due course.

return to the WTA tour at a new hardcourt tournament in Kentucky in August, said the organizers on Thursday.

Cup in Februar, as a result of the Corona virus pandemic.
WTA action is scheduled to
resume with the Palermo Open in Italy starting on August 3.
Al-Farouq Aminu, IK Diogu make top 10 FIBA Africa players of the decade
BASKETBALL:
D’Tigers stars Ike Diogu and Al-Farouq Aminu have been named in FIBA Africa’s Top 10 Players of The Decade list.
FIBA Africa named the Nigerians in the first category of names released, which has five players. The second list of five names will be released soon with other Nigerian stars expected to make it.
The Nigerians were picked from an initial list of 55 top African players. The selection was based on their impact at club and national teams’ participation at FIBA competitions, which ran from 2010 to 2020.

Despite failing to represent the country at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, the 29-year-old small forward played a vital role in helping Nigeria claim Africa’s best-placed team at FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, which qualified D’Tigers for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The Orlando Magic star also helped Nigeria beat Angola to win the FIBA Afrobasket in 2015 in Tunisia.

Diogu co-captained the national team to the 2015 Afrobasket win in Tunisia. Despite playing all the games from the sidelines due to injury, the former Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers power forward motivated the team from the technical bench.

CAF Gives August 31 Deadline For Federations To Submit Inter-Club Teams
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given an August 31 deadline for its federations to submit their representatives for the inter-club competitions – the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
According to information obtained , the decision was in line with CAF’s decision to start both competitions in October.
So far, only 27 African nations have known their representatives. Over 90% of the representatives so far have been obtained from national championships that were abandoned following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in Africa in the month of March.
This request from CAF mandates countries still planning to persuade the continuation of their national championships before the above-mentioned deadline.
Meanwhile, as at the last count, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco make up a number of countries still on a mission to conclude the current campaign on the pitch, though they may not have sufficient time to conclude the competitions.
The CAF Champions League and Confederation cup current season have been suspended in the semifinal stage since the outbreak of the pandemic in March with six games left.
