Rivers United Football Club, led by General Manager Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, officially unveiled Finidi George as its new Technical Manager on Thursday, July 4, at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt. Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Chris Green, graced the occasion as a special guest.
Barrister Green emphasized that Rivers State, under the exemplary leadership of His Excellency Sir Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Joseph Fubara GSSRS, deserves only the best. "Finidi, welcome home," he said. "Our teams, including Rivers United, Rivers Angels, Rivers Hoopers are indeed Rivers United deserve the best because we are being governed by the best Governor in Nigeria, His Excellency Sir Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Joseph Fubara, Grand Service Star of Rivers State (GSSRS). We have brought in Finidi George, a serial winner with domestic and international accolades, including the 1994 Cup of Nations. He is a testament to Nigeria's football greatness."
Barrister Green expressed confidence in Finidi George's ability to bring laurels to Rivers State, stressing discipline and hard work as essential. "We have decided to bring in our own, Finidi George, a serial winner who has won domestically and internationally. He belongs to the greatest in football in Nigeria, bringing home the Cup of Nations in 1994," he said. "We are blessed to have him back home, and we expect nothing but the best from him."
The Commissioner offered an "open cheque" to Finidi George to recruit Nigeria's best players, aiming to win the league and President Federation Cup (FA Cup). "If you know the best player, bring him, and I'll sign him on. It's an open cheque to Finidi George to get us the best players and win the league and FA Cup," he said.
Barrister Green praised the Supporters Club of Rivers United for their dedication and the Rivers Angels for their recent President Federation Cup victory. "Finidi George's return home is a blessing," he said. "This time, it's not business as usual. Discipline is our watchword. We won't tolerate sabotage. The best must come to Rivers United."
In conclusion, Barrister Green welcomed Finidi George home and thanked everyone for their support.
