PRESIDENT TINUBU CONFERS NIGERIAN ARMY OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD ON CHIEF IKENNA OKAFOR AT NADCEL 2026 GRAND FINALE

PORT HARCOURT – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Monday conferred the Nigerian Army Outstanding Service Award Medal on Chief Sir Dr. Ikenna Okafor, Ide Akwaeze, during the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADCEL 2026, held at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
President Tinubu was represented at the event by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who presented the prestigious medal to the distinguished civilian on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief with the Chief Host His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, Executive Governor of Rivers State. The ceremony formed part of the highpoints of NADCEL 2026, an annual celebration of the gallantry, sacrifices, and service of personnel of the Nigerian Army.
Chief Ikenna Okafor is one of the very few civilians to receive the award in the 163-year history of the Nigerian Army. The Outstanding Service Award Medal is reserved for a select number of officers and civilians who have made exceptional contributions to national security, nation-building, and support for the Armed Forces.

Chief Okafor is the Chairman of Keves Global Leasing Limited, sponsors of the Rivers State FA/Keves Global Football Competition. His company’s investment in grassroots football has provided a platform for young talents in Rivers State and beyond to showcase their skills ahead of the new season.

The conferment was described as a milestone and a great honour, not only to Chief Okafor and the people of Akwaeze, but also to Rivers State and the South-East region. The recognition underscores his commitment to peace, community development, youth empowerment, and support for the Nigerian military.

The event drew top government officials, traditional rulers, senior military officers, and members of the diplomatic corps. Activities included parades, military displays, and goodwill messages celebrating the role of the Nigerian Army in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.

Congratulations to Chief Sir Dr. Ikenna Okafor, Ide Akwaeze. Ide Gburugburu!
