RIVERS SWAN CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR’S WIFE ON BIRTH ANNIVERSARY, COMMENDS RIVERS ANGELS ON CUP VICTORY

In a dual celebration of commendable achievements and feats, the Rivers State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has extended its heartfelt congratulations to the wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Mrs. Valerie Fubara, on the celebration of her birth anniversary yesterday.

In a statement issued today, 30 June 2024, the Chairman, Peter Abaje lauded the significant contributions of the Governor’s wife to the sports community, and the promotion of women's football in the state; and wished her many more years of good health and prosperity.

Simultaneously, he commended the Rivers Angels for their triumphant victory in the Federation Cup yesterday at the 10,000-capacity Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. He highlighted the team's dedication, skill, and teamwork as key factors in their success.

_“This triumph is a testament to the incredible talent and tenacity of the Rivers Angels and a proud moment for Rivers State. The players and coaching staff have shown exceptional skill and determination, and their victory is well-deserved,_ Abaje stated.

Rivers Angels have won the Federation Cup title for a record nine times. This victory records another landmark for the team who missed out on winning the Nigeria Women's Football League in the just concluded season.

He further acknowledged the effort of the sports commissioner, Barr. Chris Green for his astute leadership, the fans' support and management of Rivers Angels, whose unwavering commitment have been instrumental in the team’s success.

_“The support from the fans and the strategic, meticulous planning and management of the team from the sports ministry have played a crucial role in this victory. It is a collective effort, and we are all very proud of this achievement,_  He added.

Abaje opines that Rivers SWAN will continue to support and celebrate sporting excellence and accomplishment within the state.
